something 'bout you and i
Despite all the effort Sofia had given to make him see she was trustworthy, Semper was still agitated and unsure of her real motives; which was just finding a place she could rest in. She couldn't help but ask herself why, as she looked into those olive green eyes, eyes that seemed to be wary of her movements. Every slight step she made, like the one she cautiously took to take a step back, made those deep wells of green dart towards her feet, as well as other areas of her body which might harbor a hidden weapon. She almost rolled her eyes if the action didn't make her head dizzy. She never really did go out of her way to get something done. It was either they helped her or they didn't. nothing in between. Sofia had been surviving for these past few years and she had done a perfectly good job of doing so. What more could a few more miles of road mean if she could catch a glimpse of paradise amidst all this chaos and for once, in a very long time, fall asleep without needing to do it lightly. She could sleep, commit the act in every essence of the word and not worry about waking up to find a zombie/s feasting on her innards.
If he wasn't going to give her that, her good sense of direction would take her. She had just about enough of all this acting, she wasn't really after all this doe-eyed girl who needed some stranger, or Semper's help. She was woman and she be independent. Sofia couldn't place it but it wasn't just her causing the tall blonde's anxiety, something else was causing it but then again, who was she to assume, they weren't even acquaintances for that matter. And now he knew about the explosives... what if?
"You know what," she smiled, showing a perfect set of white teeth. "If you could just point me in the general direction of the town, I could just leave and face things on my own. If you'd rather not, than I'll just follow route 66 here and hope to eventually land in the town," Sofia shook her head and laughed softly to herself. Who knew she was capable of going down on all fours just to beg for help? It was ridiculous and embarassing, to be exact. "Don't worry about the explosives. I guess I'll be on my way then," She turned around, leaving him where he stood. The moment everyone called, leap of faith.

"I said I would take you there, and I always mean what I say." Semper exclaimed, trying to hide the fact that he was slowly becoming exasperated. He couldn't just thrust his whole entire trust into some stranger he had just met outside of Mater, especially with an apocalypse going on. It was hard enough finding people in Mater to trust, so what would make this stranger any different? He knew that if she had meant to blow up the little refuge then she would not have told him that she had explosives in her "hum car," so that was one point for her. But why would she throw it back at him for not fully trusting her? He just couldn't understand it.
Sofia had turned and was starting to walk away while Semper was standing still, obviously feuding with himself internally. He wanted to help her, he really did, but what could he do? It was extremely risky letting her take the explosives into Mater, so they had decided to just leave them, but now that she was walking off, he didn't know what to do.
"Do you still want to go to Mater?" He called out after her, staying where he was. "We could just leave the explosives here and then tell the sheriff that they are out here and maybe they can take them and do something with them?" He shifted his weight on his feet, glancing around a few moments before looking back at her. "I am sorry it looks like I don't trust you. There is kind of an apocalypse going on and even within Mater I still have only a select few people I know I can trust. You are always welcome to go to Mater, but you will have a warmer greeting if I take you there, so.... ja..." He bit his lower lip as he awaited her reply.

something 'bout you and i
Sofia couldn't quite put a finger to it but it looked like she'd annoyed him with her recent blast. Like she'd struck a knife somewhere in his chest when she'd gone on and stated the obvious. Maybe not directly but she might as well have said, "You don't trust me, I don't trust you. Either help me or you don't. I wouldn't give a damn." But that would be too rude and she owed him her food for the day... which she'd repaid the moment she'd opened her mouth and let her thoughts be heard. Why keep them to herself when it was blantantly plain for anyone to see what the situation was. Sofia scoffed and blew an unruly hair off her face. When the black strand wouldn't cooperate, she stopped in her tracks and tied her hair in a simple knot, using nothing but the black veil on her crown.
Sofia knew she'd reacted rather impulsively about how the guy, Semper, couldn't take a leap of faith and just went on ahead and trusted her. She wouldn't trust anyone herself... even if they offered food and such. Maybe the guy was just being protective and then again, a certain reason might have been causing his distress. Semper called from behind her and she stopped walking, hearing him out. She could hear the hesitation in his voice, the uncertainty of what he was doing, what he sounded like he wanted to do. Sofia hesitated. She didn't know if she'd just let him guide her, get that warm welcome, or go by herself, risk a chance of getting into the town after all. The answer was there, she just couldn't put it on herself to rely on someone. The world had changed however and maybe so could she. Sofia turned around slowly and walked back, not really wanting to shout back as Semper had done.
"I'm still going if you'd not have taken me," she said a feet from him, folding her arms. "Lemme take you back to my humvee and I'll discuss my plan on the way. Your little scene there just caused us time," she said matter-of-factly, the walkers were keen to hearing after all. Sofia walked back to the direction of her vehicle and continued on talking, hoping he was following close behind. He wouldn't shoot her, right? After handing her his bag of food. "See, about the explosives, I'm gonna shut up about it and so should you. I'll leave you in the car for awhile while I hide the c5s somewhere. And yes, I'm very good at finding it again," she just hoped Semper didn't try anything with the wires beneath the headboard of her car. It was the second most precious thing to her. She hoped too, that Semper would agree on this plan with her. They were hers anyways. "I'll show them to your people once I know they won't use it for the worst." She then stopped abruptly and turned to face him again. "Are we clear?" she asked, in her most commanding voice she rarely used. Hell, she hadn't use it for awhile after facing only brainless humans who understood nothing but the smell of fresh meat.

Semper wanted nothing more than to just retort hotly, but that would get them nowhere. The trust he had formed earlier was slowly starting to falter. What exactly did she want from him? Did she want him to take her to Mater or did she want to just take his food and run? He didn't regret giving her the peanuts, though. If he was starving, he would want nothing more than for someone to give him any kind of food. Shelter could be made, but food couldn't.
He bit his tongue and held up his free hand in surrender to her, not wanting to argue any further. He figured it was better for her to do the talking than to have him inject his comments and get them off fighting. "Okay, okay." He followed her, focusing more on keeping his mouth shut than watching her move to make sure she wasn't trying anything funny. "Don't worry about me telling anyone." He said, past the point of caring if she believed him or not, also trying to keep his tone level. "Clear as crystal." She was short, but then again, everyone in Mater was short compared to him. That didn't change his attitude any; Semper knew better than to try anything with the possessions of others, especially when the other person has explosives.

something 'bout you and i
The situation between the both of them wasn't getting any better. The plan was to get the blonde, Semper, to trust her but she wasn't exactly following according to plan. She'd let her too proud self get the better of her and her mouth and obvious stubborness, that she could take care of herself, had shot the bird down without even letting it take flight. She hadn't always been this uptight and snappy, after her times serving in the army, she'd settled down, got closer to her son and found herself a job. The transition from an adrenaline-pumped atmosphere to the gentle ambience of a cafeteria she worked in had not been an easy job. It had been her first step toward other dreams but those dreams never saw the break of day once the virus got out. Luckily enough, her personality had gone through the transition successfully and she came out a new woman with friendliness coursing through her veins. She'd travelled alone on the world, searching for her son and barely coming across someone who was still human. When she saw one though, her trust in humanity diminished completely and had her going back to square one. Trust no one but herself.
So far, Semper hadn't done anything to thwart the growing trust in Sofia. Sofia, on the other hand, was trying in all her might to kill that small seed of hope, that maybe, people in Mater could be trusted. Maybe. She stopped abruptly in her tracks and hunched her shoulders, having plenty of time of think things through. Despite the shouting voice in her head to stop whatever it was she was planning, the other side urged her on. Her mind was a battlefield, most likely. But Sofia was tired, she'd proven she could take care of herself by her own. But then, that grew almost too tiring and if she hadn't seen another soul, perhaps, she'd taken her life herself too. Leaves and twigs were crushed softly behind her as she turned around to face Semper again, looking into those hazy eyes of his and finding nothing but honesty. She could see the confusion and annoyance on his face but other than that, he'd stuck with her even after she'd done just about everything to anger him.
"Sorry," she said softly, letting out a sigh of breath. Her hands went to her sides as she anxiously clenched and unclenched her fists, out of a nervous habit. "It's just that, I met someone before and let's say that relationship was a one way ticket to hell and it was lucky I'd gotten out of it alive," Killing zombies was one thing, it didn't really cause you guilt because you knew that you'd done the best thing for him/her. But killing another human being when their race was going extinct was another whole thing, when she didn't exactly find joy in killing other humans, even back in the army. "I killed someone," she said ominously and didn't notice that the tears were her own. Her eyes shifted to anything but Semper's own as she wiped her face with the back of her hand. "Oh wow, look at that, something must have gotten into my eyes," her voice broke, giving her away. "Look, it's not that I don't want to trust you," but that really was what was going on. "It's just that... nevermind," she smiled then, her composure finally relaxing. "Let's hide the explosives and then go to town, tell the sheriff and we'll come looking for it later. That was you plan, after all," she looked at him as all walls broke down, she just hoped she wouldn't regret her decision in the end.

Semper went quiet when he heard Sofia saying that she was sorry. About what, though? Things she had said? He felt stupid for not knowing what she was apologizing for, but it didn't matter. She really hadn't harmed him in any way other than annoying him, and in his eyes that really didn't mean anything serious unless it persisted, which it didn't. He looked down at her from his abnormal height, listening to what she was telling him.
Had she been in an abusive relationship? He couldn't tell and he didn't want to pry information out of her, especially if it was a touchy subject like that one. It wasn't until she spoke again that he understood. Sofia had killed someone. He furrowed his brow in concern, looking down into her face and noticing the tears in her eyes. Nobody would cry over killing anyone if they had been in a relationship, and unless she was just simply eaten up by the guilt of killing a stranger, he was almost sure that he could safely assume that she had cared for whoever she had killed. And if she was joking, it was too convenient a time for something to get into her eye. Not only that, but her voice sounded mournful, in his opinion. He kept his mouth shut, figuring that he would ask her something later.
The boy nodded at the suggestion of hiding the explosives. "There is a good spot to hide them outside one of the farms," he said, adjusting the strap on his shoulder and pointing off in the general direction of the certain area. "It is not too far from here." Semper noticed that she now had a smile on her face, but was it a sincere one? That was the question and he didn't know how to find the answer to it without probably opening old wounds. He waited for her to show her where the explosives were so he could help her hide them, and perhaps then he would ask her about the murder.

something 'bout you and i
Sofia noticed the crease in his forehead grow deeper when she apologized for her earlier actions. She couldn't help but smile and shake her head instead. Their conversation earlier had been confusing as hell. On one hand, you wanted to trust the other person but on the other hand, you wanted to trust only yourself. In the end, she'd gone from hopeful to snappy to annoying to this. Really now, could her emotions be so out of it that she couldn't control them anymore? Who knew that the next time she was speaking with another human-being, like she was doing now, would result to confusion and more confusion. Mainly because she didn't know how to deal with people anymore. The operative word there was deal, which made relating to a person sound so hard when she could just talk and keep her head from going down the rabbit hole and expecting the worst from humanity. Desite the distance they had from each other she still had to crane her neck a few to look him straight in the eyes, her own never flinching.
Then again, maybe she was sorry for what she'd done before. For taking another human life. There never really hadn't been any choice, it was either hers or her companions and her life was more important to her. It never really was a relationship to begin with, more of, you watch my back and I'll watch yours companionship. When, however, things started to get fishy, losing some of her stuff, other person making a heckload of excuses, it took one checking up on what the other person was up to to confirm her gut feel. Her companion could not be trusted. Past was past though and she was never a person to linger with memories of things that had happened. More worried on how she would live today and deal with tomorrow when the dawn rose. Sofia waited patiently, shifting her weight from foot to foot, her shotgun lay behind her right arm, ready for any attack.
When he nodded and followed his point, not really seeing anything but more trees obscuring what he wanted her to see, she somehow relaxed, not really noticing how she felt so strung up earlier, with the emotions and trust all over the place. "Will do," she agreed, nodding her head without really thinking much about it. It was a great leap for her to trust whatever it was he was saying and despite the shouting voice in her head to keep to herself, she concentrated real hard on turning around and walking back to her humvee. At a rather clear sight, she stopped when she found her vehicle being appraised by three men unknown to her, guns in their hands. Maybe they were townspeople and instead of instinctively hiding behind a tree and shooting them off one by one, she turned around slowly and faced Semper again.
"Your people, right?" she asked, it was either they were some sort of ranger patrolling the area or a new soul looking for the town but finding her humvee instead. Something in her gut told her they couldn't be trusted and she somehow acknowledged it, having felt none of the distrust when she'd faced Semper. She didn't want to upset her guide though and had to make sure first before she got all assuming.

Luckily it had never been this hard for Semper. His aunt had lived in Mater before the disease had broke out, so he had stayed there, living with her. He had seen Mater all the way through the lock down, losing all forms of governmental structure until the sheriff's department took over, and the shift from pretty much civilized life to primitive living. He didn't really mind, though. He enjoyed working outdoors and being with the animals, though in the early days it was hard for him. With his aunt dead (luckily she had passed before the disease outbreak), he really had no one until he met Viv and Tally. They were the only family he had in America and he cherished them. They helped him get through, and in these times, no one could really afford to not have anyone by their side.
Semper's dark grey eyes watched Sofia as she nodded and went over to her Humvee, as she had called it. It was a great big vehicle, something that he certainly had never seen before. At the farm back home, the Tchida family had one rinky dink car that was more like just scrap metal kept together with glue. They used it quite a lot, but Semper, because he was so tall and unable to fit in the small cab, chose to ride one of the plow horses everywhere he needed to go. Most of the places were within riding distance and there were plenty of places the draft horse could stay while he was off doing business, and he loved it. "The Green Machine," as his siblings often called the plow horses to tease Semper. All good-natured fun.
But in this grand hunk of shiny metal, the tall blonde couldn't imagine riding around in it. The cab was huge and the tires large. "Where on earth did you get a car like this?" He asked curiously, taking a few steps after her and in the direction of her Humvee. Semper was much too busy examining the extraordinary car to notice the three men nearby until Sofia mentioned them. "Your people, right?"
He lifted his gaze to her face in a questioning look before turning to look in the direction she had been facing, only to see three unknown men. None of their faces looked familiar, and the guns in their hands only added a wicked edge to their appearance. He shook his head, hand pulling off the shotgun from his shoulder. "No, I do not recognize them..."[/blockquote] notes - sure :D Drama/action? >:D

something 'bout you and i
Sofia was actually pretty thankful that someone else was there with her. Else she would've picked a fight there and then since her instincts told her as much. Semper was actually keeping her rooted to her spot and thinking before doing anything reckless and stupid. Actually, Sofia was more of a thinker before a doer. She was that person you could rely on to think things through before they started happening. There was always a Plan B and Plan C waiting and if those weren't enough, Plan D and so on. A bit too impossible actually, but her brain was always working to keep her from falling into a deep rut.\
Hearing the sudden awe in Semper's voice, she turned to face him and noticed he was walking toward the humvee. Sofia had to battle with her kneejerk reaction to pull him back to her side, guess she didn't want the good kid to get hurt after all. What could she say, the humvee was practically her baby. She'd bought it off the net on those crappy auction sites and got the better deal. Some guy just didn't know the true capacity of her vehicle. Too bad the city officers back in New York had forbid her from using the car on the streets due to its massive size. It almost took up two lanes and scared the hell outta people. They'd really stop in the middle of the street and just stare at her big ass size of a car, wondering if world war 3 had broken out. So instead, she'd just hid it in one of those storage centers and used it as a hidden stash for her guns and ammunitions. Keeping those weapons in her home with the dangers of a kid snooping around to find it wasn't exactly reassuring. But then, back to the present situation, maybe now she could actually start letting the trust come to life? No? Having this certain feel of protectiveness towards the guy should've accounted for something. At least, Semper did stop walking when Sofia commented on the other guys and he stayed where he was.
"Maybe we could hide behind that tree first and check 'em out?" asking nicely wasn't one of her strong characters but she did try. She couldn't wait for his response though and she quietly walked toward a nearby tree. Sofia hoped Semper had sensed the movement and was walking towards another tree too. They could listen in on what the guys were planning on. Her baby was at stake but being mateialistic when she got other important things to worry about was out of the question.
