"looks like we're without a car again, flynn," she said, looking down at the furry ball at her feet that was staring up at her with a curious expression. the german shepherd puppy was a new addition to the mater family. dexter had taken toni out to find a dog once she'd decided she wanted one, and it had turned out that dogs were rather hard to find. they weren't fans of sticking close to where the zombies were. but they had finally found flynn, along with his brother, who she'd named nuka, next to the corpses of their mother and other siblings. toni had immediately bonded with flynn, the more aggressive of the two pups, but there was way she was going to leave nuka behind. flynn was now hers, but she was planning to find nuka a new home eventually. but it was all a little depressing. after getting shot in the stomach, toni had been informed that she was now incapable of bearing children. so a dog was really her only chance at ever being a 'mother.' despite what most people thought, toni had actually wanted children eventually, and to find out she couldn't have them was a hard blow. but since the world sucked anyway, she'd convinced herself that it was for the best that children wouldn't be brought into it. and it helped that flynn and her had had an instant bond. with a brief sigh, toni turned away from the lemon car and started walking away from the hotel, where she lived in a room on the ground floor, right in front of where the car was parked. flynn scampered after her as she walked, barking happily at the prospect of going somewhere new. it wasn't a very long walk from the hotel to gage's house, but the heat made it more annoying. flynn was feeling it after awhile as well, his small tongue hanging as he panted and tried to keep up. eventually toni leaned down and picked up the fuzzball, wincing slightly at the heat on his black coat. when she finally got to gage's, she was slightly surprised at how excited she was to see him. it seemed like it had been forever since they talked, and she actually missed him, which was an odd feeling for her. flynn semed just as excited, and by then was back to walking by himself. he followed toni as she stepped onto the porch and knocked loudly on the front door, his ears perked forward. crossing her arms over her chest, toni looked around at all the cars surrounding her, figuring one had to be gage's. yep, she was going to ask to borrow one. that or ask if any on this street were abandoned. she could already imagine what he was going to say about this being the topic of her visit after them not seeing each other so long, but she didn't really care. she waiting patiently for him or one of his roommates... if he had any... she wasn't sure about that.... to answer the door, her arms crossed over her chest as she looked up at the bright sun. |
