Tallulah slowly made her way to the barn, looking at all the other farm hands working in the fields. She had to go take care of the livestock, seeing it was her specialty. Not to mention, her beloved Pippin, the large Percheron gelding, and Mary Jane, the slender, almost thoroughbred looking appaloosa mare. Plus, she was going to see if they had a harness anywhere, it would certainly make harvest so much easier and she knew Pippin could pull a plow.
She made her way into the barn, the white head of Pippin flying over his stall door, a loud whinny in response to her entrance. "Shhhhhhush!" She hissed softly, placing a hand on his muzzle. She looked over to her appaloosa mare, sadness appearing in her eyes for a moment. She had bred this mare herself, and left her mother and father behind. Then again, she did the same to her own parents..
She shrugged it off, pulling the strap of her overused, oversize overalls back over her shoulder. Another with these dirty, filled with holes overalls, she wore a simple baggy tye dye she made herself, of course. "How bout' I exercise you guys today? I don't want you guys getting fat and lazy on me now.." She whispered, moving over to rub Mary on the forehead.

It had been a horribly long day out in the field. One of the laborers had fallen ill so Semper had volunteered to take their place. Luckily, though, he had been assigned to till one of the fields so that new crops could be planted.
It had taken nearly all day, with plenty of water breaks for the poor shire horse, to get the field plowed. At the end of the day, Semper was careful when he took off the harness of the mare and scanned her over for any places that had been rubbed raw from the leather, which thankfully there weren't. At the sudden feeling of freedom, she quickly shook herself nickered, sticking her tongue out and licking her lip. He smiled, patting her neck and talking to her soothing in German. The mare's ear flickered toward him as he spoke, but nothing more. He knew all she wanted to do was rest, so he clipped a lead rope onto her halter and led her out of the field, toward the barn.
The shade felt incredible. Semper gave a sigh of relief, though his grey eyes were having an awful time adjusting to the shade after having been outside ever since nearly dawn. Rounding a corner, a smile came to his face when he noticed one of his good friends. "Guten Abend, Tally." He said a bit too cheerfully for his weary state, leading the mare down the hall and to a cross tie, hooking her up and heading back to the tack room to get a hoof pick.

The brunette decided that today, she'd take Mary out. The mare was only four and still technically green broke. If Tallulah wasn't riding her, she sat in the cool stable. She sometimes took her horses to graze in the grass, but she got nervous with her horses out in the fields without supervision. Yes, she was like a worried mother in that aspect. "Alright, Mary, we are going to go out later. Maybe go into what's left of the shops?" She cooed, rubbing her forelock.
Now, back to finding that harness. She wondered down the aisle, heading toward the tack room when a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks. She turned, a big smile on her face, her unbrushed hair flipping over her shoulder. She didn't really care much for her looks anymore, not like she was good at brushing her hair in the first place.."Hey Semper!" She greeted, pretty much skipping over to him.
"I'm thinking about going out riding later, if your not too tired, you should join me!" She said, walking into the tack room as well, searching the harnesses for one that could fit a smaller draft. Pippin was only 16.2 hh, but he was a Percheron, so he could still plow in the fields. Mary on the other hand could not, but was simply a fast riding horse, possibly for Ranger's that feel the need to be more quiet or 'green' so to say.
"I cleaned all the tack this morning, by the way." She said, rather proudly.

Bending over, Semper ran his hand along the backside of the mare's front leg so that she would lift it up and he could pick the hoof clean of the dirt that had jammed up in there. "Pft, I am never too tired to go riding unless I am bleeding out." He answered, smiling as he straighted up after having finished the fourth hoof. Suddenly rising to his full height caused his vision to go blurry, so he set a hand against the mare's shoulder to keep himself balanced before patting her. "My gosh, how on earth do you have the patience to do that? That is the one thing I can't stand doing." Semper didn't know why, but oiling and washing tack just drove him mad. A major factor may have been when his parents would use oiling the harness for the oxen and horses as a punishment for bad behavior since it took nearly all evening to do.
"I am just going to wash her off quick with water and then I'll be ready." He smiled at her and returned the hoof pick to the tack room, taking out a sweat scraper and went back out and unhitched the mare from the cross ties. The blonde led her out of the barn and over to a little creek nearby where a bucket had a permanent residence. She waded in and began to drink greedily while Semper took the bucket and filled it up, pouring it onto her so she could cool off. He then used his fingers and nails to rub off dirt spots and clean her as best he could without a brush, using the sweat scraper to then wipe off the excess water. Once the mare had had her fill of water to drink, Semper led her back to the barn and set her in her stall, giving her a flake of hay to tide her over until the evening feed.
"Tally?" He called out, setting the halter and lead rope on a hook outside of the stall.

The brunette only smiled as she listened to him talk from the tack room. This is what she liked to hear. She loved the fact there was someone else here who enjoyed horses as much as herself, not to mention knew how to ride them. This was a rare treat for the tall twenty year old. Well, the second best part was that he was taller then her. Sure, she was only five ten, but she was used to seeing eye to eye with men. Not with Semper, since he was a skyscraper.
Hell, this was a rare treat even before the apocalypse!
"I don't mind it much. It needed to be done. The leather was getting stiff and hard to work with." She said, smiling softly. After she finally found a harness in the back that would fit Pippin, she put it out more in the open. She'd use it tomorrow when she worked the fields.
"Alright, whilst your doing that, I'm going to start tacking up Mary." She said, walking out of the tack room toward Mary's stall. The bay appaloosa pinned her ears back when the brunette grabbed her lead rope. "Don't give me the look." She said, rolling her eyes as she let herself into the stall, hooking the lead rope to the mare. She lead the mare out of the stall and put her into the cross ties.
She moved to the tack room to get the grooming supplies. She walked back out and started to take the curry comb to the mares dusty coat. She decided to take it slow so she wouldn't been too far ahead of Semper. She then heard her nickname being called, causing her to wave with her free hand. "Here!"

Hearing Tally's voice coming from one of the stalls, Semper followed the sound and approached Mary's stall, leaning against the door and looking in. "Mary is looking just as beautiful as ever," he said to no one in particular, reaching out to stroke her neck. "I will be back."
He turned and headed back to the tack room, picking up a bridle for one of the plow horses that hadn't worked that day. Since he preferred to not use a saddle unless he was carrying luggage, all he left the room with was a bridle, hoof pick, a curry comb and another brush. He then went over to a stall that held a bay clydesdale, one with white markings very similar to that of the famous Budweiser horses. The gelding, whose name was Zipper, perked his ears up as Semper came over and unlatched the stall door. "Guten Tag, Zipper." He said upon entering, getting the hoof pick and setting to work on the hooves to clear them out. He then took the curry comb, ran it in circles along the brown fur, and then brushed away all the dust. Zipper was quite picky about bits, so Semper had compromised by taking the bit off his bridle and just latching the reins onto where the bit would attach to, a few fixings here and there, and it worked just fine. He slipped the bridle over the gelding's large head, patting him on the neck before leading him back out into the barn aisle. "Where were you wanting to ride off to today, Tally?" Semper called out to her, stopping and turning to face Zipper, setting the reins over his neck while the lazy clydesdale stood with one foot cocked and head down low.
